what we believe

Contemporary philosopher Stephen Mullhall, in his book on Modernism, chose to call it "Inheritance and Originality". His view of philosophy was that it 'exists as a creative dialogue with the past'. When I came to choose the name for the practice not only did it declared my intentions as a company, it reflects my dialogue with the past and my understanding of architecture and vision for the future.

spacesix reflects my dialogue with the past and my understanding of architecture and vision for the future

The importance of space to almost every aspect of our lives cannot be overestimated. As such, as an architect I endeavour to create original spaces that complement and enhance our lives. Architecture is not a repetition of the old; making full use of new technologies and imagination it strives to make the past better, to make our modern life better than that which preceded it. Central the vision of the practice the space in spacesix is ambiguous enough to encompass all the possible connotations of the word, and specific enough to ensure that the purpose of architecture is to provide spaces for life.

architecture is more than "art you walk through"; it's art that is lived, and worked in.

Architectural practices need, however, to be more than principled: architecture is more than "art you walk through"; it is art that is lived, and worked in. Architecture is the creation of the spaces in which the majority of life's important events take place. Architecture is the most lasting of arts; it creates the artefacts by which our culture will be judged by posterity, and, more importantly, it provides the spaces in which we share our lives."

Managing Director, George Skinner: Since qualifying in 2001 I have gained a huge wealth of experience working on a wide variety of projects in many different sectors ranging in value from £15k to excess £100m.

The son of a North Sea fisherman I grew up in a family infused with values of honesty, integrity and a hardworking approach to life, and business - the inheritance that I bring to commerce reflects this; a principled, industrious approach is the only way to deliver in business. The green six in spacesix is a translation of the colour and registration of my father's boat and pays reverence to the most influential man and woman in my life and core set of values they instilled in me.
